Chez Pierre
From Anna Zivian: “I used to hang out in the kitchen, where Annie Savath, the owner, would make me bread and chocolate, while my mother, Irina Zivian, was cooking. I’ll share more stories here, but would also love to hear other people’s memories of the restaurant. I’m prejudiced, obviously, but I think it was one of the best Telluride restaurants ever :-).”
The Stronghouse (circa 1892) is one of the last warehouses that once occupied the part of town adjacent to the railroad tracks. Its distinction is, mostly, that it still stands.
Chez Pierre occupied the Stronghouse from 1972-1977. In the 1980s, the Stronghouse was home to a Mexican restaurant, La Paloma, and after that it housed the offices of The Telluride Daily Planet. In 2009 the Stronghouse Studios and Gallery was operated by the Telluride Council for the Arts and Humanities, an organization later renamed Telluride Arts.
And now, part of the Telluride Transfer redevelopment of the entire block, the Stronghouse will be home to a restaurant again, the Stronghouse Brewery.
