This was the biggest and last space occupied by Honga, before she moved to Ridgway in 2016. Maybe it was too big? A large restaurant space in Telluride is challenging, due to long off-seasons and slow periods even in high season. Restaurateurs have explained that the high overhead may not be sustainable.
This location housed a restaurant, the Roma, starting in 1897, although the buildings were built even earlier, making them among the oldest standing commercial buildings in town. It still boasts a spectacular antique bar, dating from 1860. Today the building has a smaller restaurant in basement, the Wood Ear Whiskey Lounge and Noodle Bar, while the upstairs is occupied by the local business incubator, Telluride Works.
