Where there are now county offices on the second floor of the Miramonte Building there was once a restaurant, best known for being the only place that stayed open all spring off-season. The Tride Country Club was a cook your own steak joint but I went there for the fish chowder, very likely courtesy of a big food provisioner like Sysco, but still delicious. Tride Country Club was managed by Will Kennedy, who went on after it closed to manage the Elks for awhile. Where are you now, Will? There is still a Minturn Country Club, same concept, in a town downvalley from Vail. Probably the same owners, at least back then. Don’t recall when Tride sizzled it’s last steak. Today, of course, there are more restaurants that tough it out through the spring doldrums.
